Should I stay or should I go? No-brainer for the Brits!

MUCH has been made, especially by the Racing Post's Irish correspondent Richie Forristal, of the lack of UK entries at last weekend's Dublin Festival. ‘Inexcusable’ was the headline about their absence.

It seems he and others are not aware of that great band of my youth The Clash. Moving the two Leopardstown meetings to one has produced great racing but many clashes of similar races.

There is no reason for Nicky Henderson to eschew the easy opportunity of the Contenders Hurdle with Buveur D'Air, nor for Altior or the Paul Nicholls-trained Politologue to miss the Game Spirit this Saturday. Similarly the Denman Chase is well established at Newbury and Native River could quite happily go there.

For handicap lovers, the Coral Hurdle in its various guises used to be run early in January but is now a week before the Betfair Hurdle. It was hardly surprising that the race attracted only one British declaration (and that didn't run). Indeed given that Master Of Irony had his prep run at Newbury it was a surprise he was declared for Leopardstown in the first place.

When Ireland had only one runner on Trials Day at Cheltenham, nobody in the UK appeared to take offence. It's a shame that it didn't work the other way round.
