In December 2003, at
the prestigious Horserace Writers’ annual Derby Awards lunch
in London, he was
crowned Blue Square
HWPA Champion Tipster
after beating 70 fellow top tipsters and racing journalists in a
national competition that embraced all the major meetings, from
Cheltenham in March to Newmarket in October.
Gary, who has worked
extensively for the Sporting Life, Racing Post, Sunday Mirror
and Attheraces TV website and has run his own successful
racecard formguide operation, won the coveted award with a massive
SP profit of £178.15 to a £1 level stake. His winners included Bagan
(50-1) at the York Ebor meeting, New Seeker (16-1) at Royal Ascot
and Spirit Leader (10-1) at the Cheltenham Festival. He holds the
competition record for the best daily score.
In the previous year’s
contest he finished second with a profit of £167.96 to a £1 level
stake, having completed the Grand National-Derby double with Bindaree
and High Chaparral, whom he had backed ante-post at 33-1 and 10-1
respectively. Other tips included Crystal Castle (14-1), the French-trained
winner of the Tote International.
The year before that,
he went into the record books by tipping all seven winners at Ascot
on 17 February at accumulative odds of 20,459-1. The tips appeared
in the official racecard and were later dubbed the ‘Magnificent
Seven’ by Ascot, home of Frankie Dettori’s historic seven-timer.
Year in, year out Gary
has demonstrated his ability to unearth big-priced winners. Now
he and his team of contacts will use this high level of expertise
to ensure that Horsetrader stays ahead of the pack in the world
of betting and exchange-trading advice.
